How does Bay Alarm work?

All three of Bay Alarm Medical’s alert systems work in the same basic way.

When you push your medical alert button:

  1. The Bay Alarm Medical call center receives an emergency signal.
  2. Within 45 seconds, a call center agent attempts to reach you by speaking through the base station or calling you on the phone.
  3. If you can talk with them, they’ll determine what kind of help you need. They typically will call your local emergency response authority and the contact of your choice. But if you don’t need emergency help, they’ll simply call your contact, such as a relative or neighbor.
  4. If they are unable to contact you, they’ll assume it’s a possible emergency and will contact your local emergency services as well as the first available person on your contact list.
  5. The operator stays on the line with you until help arrives.

1. In-Home Medical Alert System (Telephone Landline Required)

Bay Alarm Medical’s most popular product, the In-Home Medical Alert System can only be used if you have a telephone landline in your home. The base station will detect a signal from your alarm button when you’re up to 1,000 feet away from the base station. That should cover most homes, including the front and backyards.

Cellular Plans

Bay Alarm Medical has plans that work using a cellular network, so no landline is required to use them. You don’t need a cell phone or a cell phone plan to use them, either, cellular coverage is included with your Bay Alarm Medical Plan. They use AT&T’s cellular network, which is available nationwide. 2. Cellular Medical Alert System (No Landline Required)

No telephone landline is needed with the Cellular Medical Alert System. This convenient update to a classic home alert system uses a cellular network to connect to the monitoring center when you press the help button on your pendant.

The base station will pick up a signal from the help button from as far as 1000 feet away in all directions and has a backup battery to keep you covered if the power goes out in your home. Just like the In-Home Medical Alert, this product has a built-in, high-output speaker and a sensitive microphone so you can communicate clearly with the emergency care representative.

The GPS Medical Alert System is an all-in-one at home and on-the-go device. Unlike the other products from Bay Alarm Medical,this system doesn’t have a base station that’s separate from the wearable help button. Instead, the help button and base station are packaged in one small unit that you wear around your neck or clipped to your belt.

The device uses the AT&T cellular network to connect with the Bay Alarm Medical call center when you push the button on your pendant. You’ll speak to the call agent using the speaker and microphone built into your pendant.

This system has GPS locating capabilities so you can be quickly located wherever you are when you need help.

This help-button pendant is water-resistant; however, it’s not waterproof, so it can’t be submerged in water.

The GPS help button can last up to 72 hours on one charge and has a one-year warranty.

About the Add-On Options

Bay Alarm Medical’s add-on options aren’t included in the basic cost of each product but have to be purchased separately for an additional cost.

  • Fall detection.  The fall detection pendant is designed to detect a fall automatically and call the life alert monitoring center for you. Falls can lead to disorientation or unconsciousness, which is why this feature is available for additional peace of mind. For added safety, always press your alarm button whenever possible. This pendant is optimized to cut down on false alarms and has a range of 800 ft. Cost: An additional $10 a month.

  • Extra pendant (neck or wrist). If you want your spouse or a family member to be able to use your Bay Alarm Medical system, they’ll need their own alarm button pendant. You might also want both styles of alert buttons so you can change up your look. Cost: A one-time charge of 34.95.
  • Wall button. Place these wall buttons low to the ground so you can press them if you fall but aren’t wearing your pendant. Bay Alarm Medical recommends placing them in high-risk areas for falls like a stairwell and bathroom. Cost: A one-time charge of $39.95.

  • Lockbox. Bay Alarm Medical’s lockboxes securely store your house key. They’re protected with a combination lock. During an emergency, a call center operator will give the code to your emergency contacts and EMTs so they can get into the home to help you without having to break in. Is it easy to install?

Yes. For the In-Home version, simply plug it into a phone jack and press your alarm button to make a test call. For all other Bay Alarm Medical systems, just plug them into a power outlet and then run the test.

Can I cancel anytime?

You can cancel any plan within 14 days of receiving your system. However, after that time, you can’t cancel service until your plan ends. That means if you have a six-month plan, you can’t cancel until six months are up. If you want the flexibility to cancel, go with the monthly or three-month plans.

How do I cancel?

To cancel your Bay Alarm Medical service, you have to mail your equipment back to them at your expense. Once the equipment is received, your refund will be processed. If has to be in like-new condition or you’ll be charged a $200 equipment charge.
